Travel Grants

Below is a list of Travel Grants that students can apply for, the list will be updated as soon as more Travel Grants become available:

 

  • UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS

To support student attendance from African Institutes at the iBOL 2017 conference, the University of Johannesburg is offering a Travel Award Program. This includes six (6) travel awards for South African students/post-doctoral fellows and six (6) travel awards for students/post-doctoral fellows from students from countries within Africa (excluding South Africa).

 

Please note: The committee will only support students/post-doctoral fellows presenting research, which has been accepted for presentation through the abstract submission process of the conference. Award winners are expected to attend the entire conference.

 

SOUTH AFRICAN STUDENTS

 The travel awards will cover the following:

  • Registration fee
  • Admission to pre-conference workshops
  • Shared accommodation
  • Shuttle service from OR Tambo International Airport to Skukuza
  • Lunches, teas and coffees for the duration of the conference
  • Welcome reception (20thof Nov)
  • Gala reception (23rdof Nov)
  • Dinner on the 21stand 24thof Nov
  • Game drive and sundowners (22ndof Nov)
  • Official conference T-shirt

 

Award excludes the following:

  • Travel cost to OR Tambo International Airport
  • Per Diems

 

STUDENTS FROM AFRICA (EXCLUDING SOUTH AFRICA)

Award includes the following:

  • Registration fee
  • Return economy class flight (not exceeding 1000 USD)
  • Admission to pre-conference workshops
  • Shared accommodation
  • Shuttle service from OR Tambo International Airport to Skukuza
  • Lunches, teas and coffees for the duration of the conference
  • Welcome reception (20thof Nov)
  • Gala reception (23rdof Nov)
  • Dinner on the 21stand 24thof Nov
  • Game drive and sundowners (22ndof Nov)
  • Official conference T-shirt

 

Award excludes the following:

  • Visa costs
  • Per Diems
  • Additional costs incurred for any expenditure beyond the grant award cover are for the participant’s own expenses

 

 APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for the travel awards should be sent electronically to info@dnabarcodes2017.org, by May 01, 2017. The subject line of the email should be: UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS. Only complete application packages received by the deadline will be reviewed. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

 

An application should consist of the following:

  • A copy of the abstract, which was submitted to the iBOL 2017 conference
  • CV
  • A brief statement (200-300 words) outlining your career stage and indicating how participation would benefit your career and research.
  • A supporting letter from the student’s advisor
  • Completed application form

 

Applicants will be notified by email by May 31, 2017.

  • FBIP TRAVEL AWARDS TO ATTEND THE 7TH INTERNATIONAL BARCODE OF LIFE CONFERENCE

     

    The Foundational Biodiversity Information Programme (FBIP) funded by the Department of Science & Technology, and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is offering 10 student travel grants to support student attendance at the 7th International Barcode of Life Conference.

     

    Travel awards will be granted on the following conditions:

    • Master and Doctoral students that are currently working on a FBIP funded project
    • Master and Doctoral students who are currently a recipient of a FBIP scholarship
    • Recipients of the travel grants must submit a report after the conclusion of the conference.

     

    Please note: A call for travel grants will be opened through SANBI and the FBIP management team will assess the applicants and nominate 10 students.

     

    The travel awards will cover the following:

    • Registration
    • Shared Accommodation
    • Breakfast
    • All Dinners

    Shuttle service (OR Tambo – Skukuza – return)
